Atmospheric River

We had record amounts of rainfall on the North Shore this past weekend in the first ‘atmospheric river’ of the season. Over 250mm of rain (>10”) 🤯 fell over a 3-day period, with some areas harder hit than others. At times the rain was falling at 10-12mm/hr. Heavy heavy stuff! A good chance to observe the gutters in action, drainage around the property and our stormwater system at work. Much as we grumbled about having to install a Brentwood box and new storm & sewer lines as part of our project (see posts 02/07/2023, 24/11/2023 and 15/8/2024) it sure worked well in a storm.

Photos of ground saturation and pooling occurring, and permeable vs non-permeable areas of our yard. Some runoff down the side path but once it hits our driveway the water basically disappears underneath the surface.

Feeling very fortunate and thinking of friends and businesses dealing with the aftermath of basement flooding, water damage or worse.
