Solar is Live!
Our solar team @puresolarcanada stopped by the house last week to switch on our panels. A big moment - we are now live and producing clean on-site electricity!
The system comes with a monitoring app that allows us to track power down to the individual module. Very cool to watch the first few days of production go up and down based on time of day and cloud cover. We’re ranging from 23-58 kWh energy generated per day. At the upper end, this is roughly equivalent to a charging a fully depleted EV battery with a 400-500KM range. Also interesting to see the modules that get morning shade from our magnolia tree and gable roof with lower power production.
It has taken weeks of back and forth with Telus but we now also have wifi on site, which means we can install our home energy management system. We’ve decided to go with an 8-sensor hub from @emporia_energy and clamp one of these on both our main and critical load panels. In discussion with @reliableelectricltd, the focus is on monitoring the main energy uses in house, i.e. heat pump, air handling unit & HRV, hot water, fridge / range, washer / dryer, EV charger.
All that’s left is to move into the house and start tracking on-site generation vs use, the whole intent of our net zero energy design! Exciting times.
