Rough In
A ton of plumbing, mechanical and electrical work happening behind the scenes lately. As well as ‘back framing’ – final interior framing around bulkheads, doors, non-structural walls, built-ins. A cool stage of the project where we get to see the SketchUp model come to life room-by-room.
We’ve been thinking through areas where we want to hang heavy stuff like bikes, shelves, artwork. For simplicity, we’re opting for 5’ blocking in select living spaces and 6’ blocking in garage / workshop. Perfect use for some of the last few studs saved from the original home.
We spent the better part of an afternoon with our team doing an electrical walk-through, deciding on the precise location of lights, outlets, switches, thermostats, doorbell (!) This was a critical meeting as once the insulation and drywall go up, it’s much harder to move things around.
Also got to snap some photos of the rain screen going up in preparation for siding. Essentially thin plywood strips, placed vertically on top of the air/vapor barrier to create an air gap, let the walls breathe and prevent moisture build up.
Lots on the go at any one time. Big thanks to our neighbors for tolerating all the vehicles coming/going and parked on the street! 🙏
