Digger

New year and things are now moving quickly. We have a digger on site! Have started to pull out the harder materials:

  • front steps
  • pebbledash walkway
  • foundation bits that will need reinforcing
  • footings from the back shed, arbor, deck + tree stumps from our fall pruning

A critical time to finalize the yard layout. The pond is coming out - too many years watching my parents fight off racoons as a kid. We will level out walkways, add a sitting area, a rock garden? space for some fun kid features and lots of plants. Our landscaping budget is pretty minimal, good thing we enjoy getting our hands dirty in the garden!

There is not much left of the main floor now. While we’ve got the framing all exposed, we’ve decided to add a foot of ceiling height to the basement, which will take us from 7’2” to just under 8’ finished. Walls will be framed to 2x6. Our team thinks they can repurpose ~ 150 studs and 40 2x10s for back framing, blocking and non-structural headers. Great if that’s the case.
