Deconstruction
Our permit is moving along and we are getting closer to go time! Anticipated start date is mid-September.
Today we did a video walkthrough of our house with Brenda Martens from @light_house_org who is building out course content for BCIT’s (@lifeatbcit) first ever Deconstruction Management course
We are maintaining our foundation, footprint and form, but taking our house down to studs to rebuild walls with thicker insulation, and replace windows and siding at the same time.
Deconstruction is dismantling buildings instead of demolishing, and salvaging everything that can be reused including lumber, windows, doors, cabinets, fixtures and appliances.
The course will use our house as a case study for students to learn how to create a deconstruction plan in a way that realizes the highest and best use of materials and follows circular economy principles.
We are excited to be working with @unbuildersdeconstruction, and to watch the process unfold that will pave the way for our renovation!
